A FIRST FEEL OF THE OUTDOORS!

Molly and Sasha went outside for the FIRST time in their lives! Now what?

Hello, folks! I'm sorry I haven't posted an article on the Superbudgie Blog in such a long time... it's just that I got carried away with higher priorities, such as school and Karate class. Today, though, I believe is a special time to write about my beloved Molly and Sasha, because just one week ago from this day (July 11, 2009), I let them go outside! They were in their cage, of course, or else they'd fly away.

From the moment I put Molly and Sasha outdoors (on our front porch), they were simply ecstatic! Going out was a very new experience for them and they welcomed it like real men (or, well... real birds). I hope to bring the budgies outdoors more often so they can acquire vitamin-D from the Sun and be in their very natural habitat: outside! :D

THE BIRDS ARE BACK!!!

You heard it! I haven't made a post about this yet, so this is it! Tobi as well as my other birds came back from other care! Read on...

If you have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, here's the story: On December 15, 2007, part of my family and I had to take a flight to California. The birds were at my house at this time, with my dad looking over them. A week passed in our small house in California and our dad had to come, too, so he transferred the birds to my aunt. Two weeks pass, and all of us come home to New York. Although, the birds wouldn't be able to come inside our house yet, since our thermostat was broken and the temperature stayed around the 50's for a few days. About another week after we came, the heating was finally fixed and yesterday, on January 11, 2008, the birds arrived in our house! The birds are all fine, but Molly & Sasha gained some weight, which may be a problem. All of my birds, even my African-grey Tobi, have really changed over the vacation. Anyways, that's pretty much all I can say for now. I will soon be celebrating Molly & Sasha's anniversary of coming into my house, so watch out for my next article!

YAY! MOLLY CAME OUT!

Molly was able to get out of behind my huge cabinet with help from my family. I will thank them forever for doing this. Read on...

I dedicate this article to Molly, my father, my babysitter, my brother and my grandpa, who all made this possible.

Molly came out! Hooray! I give great thanks to my father, babysitter, brother and grandpa for helping very much with Molly. Let's get back to the story. Well, this is how Molly came out: My grandpa and my father pulled one part of the cabinet (that Molly was stuck behind) apart from the main part and that made a passage way for Molly. I couldn't really see it, but after that, I heard Molly flapping her wings and then I saw my babysitter grab Molly (not hard) and put her inside her cage. After that, I thanked them and gave Molly a bath. Thank goodness that Molly came out. About Sasha, she seemed relieved when Molly came back into the cage. This memory won't be stuck in the budgies' heads for long, they can only remember for around a few weeks. This memory will be stuck in my head forever. Note, this event happened several hours ago and I should've typed it then. Thank you all for reading and we'll see what happens next in the budgies' lives on my next article.

MOLLY'S DEATH ROLL?

It looks like Molly is trapped behind our biggest and tightest closet yet. Will we be able to rescue her or will she die? Read on...

Well, you heard me. The time I typed this article, Molly has been stuck behind a gigantic piece of furniture for at least 1 1/3 hours. This is how it happened: I let Molly out of cage and she went flying crazily in every direction until, she accidentally flew behind the closet and got trapped. It's simple enough to understand, but this is Molly's death roll. Right now, the exact time I typed this, my family and I took everything out of the huge closet and we're persuading Molly to get out with some clever ideas. This will be a big event in Molly and Sasha's life forever. Talking about Sasha, right at the time I typed this, I can tell that she is very worried and depressed about Molly because of her body-language. Will Molly ever get out? We will see on my next article, but this may be Molly's big recovery or not...

BLOOD FEATHER!

It looks like Molly had her first blood feather pulled out! But this is not a good thing. Read on...

A few days ago, something big & probably painful happened to Molly. It is actually regarding blood feathers. Blood feathers are special feathers on a bird's body where blood vessels in it are attached to the bird's skin. This means if a blood feather comes out, you notice it right away & also the bird will begin to bleed. Now this is getting a little bit scary. Here's Molly's story: Well, it was a normal Tuesday for all the birds. In the evening, I decided to put Molly in Tobi's cage (Tobi is an african grey parrot I got in May of 2007). So, I put Molly in Tobi's cage (hopefully Tobi was outside of the cage). Molly was inside, chirping for help & Molly was climbing on the wall inside of the cage. Meanwhile, Tobi was climbing on the outside of the cage near Molly. I protected Molly from being bitten by Tobi, but unfortunately Tobi had access to Molly's tail feathers. Tobi bit one of Molly's tail feather, & ripped it out! Molly was startled! Now, the feather was floating to the ground. I immediately picked up the feather & guess what I saw? I saw some blood. Right away, I took Molly out of the cage, put her in her real cage & called up my dad for help. My dad gave me great advice, so I put the phone away & returned to Molly & Sasha's cage. When I came back, Molly's tail had some blood on it. Right away, I grabbed Molly, took her to the bathroom & applied some Kwik Stop Styptic powder (powder that stops bleeding) on Molly's wound. Now, Molly is okay. But I will never forget this first blood feather for Molly. We'll see what happens next time on the Superbudgie Blog.

NOTE TO VIEWERS: If you were one of my viewers of this blog since February of 2007, I'm sorry for not posting any articles. Nothing much happened with the birds. I had a lot of complaints & I'm really sorry about it. Please comment!

THE GREY IN MAY!

I've been begging for an african grey parrot since whenever! Now, my generous dad is putting an order for it & getting it in May! How exciting!

You heard it! We're getting an african grey soon, probably buying it in the month of May. Around these days, my dad is contacting Friendly Parrots in Georgia. He's giving the money now & actually buying it in May. And it's going to be a timneh named Tobi. How exciting! When I get more news about it (or actually get it), I'll make a great exciting article! This is great!

[The first picture is Tobi at a few weeks old. The second picture is Tobi at several weeks old. The second one was taken on March 28, 2007 :) ]

MY AUNT'S GREAT NEWS

Guess what? My aunt loved the birds so much when they stayed with her, that she will get 2 budgies herself! What an excitement!

Well, you heard it. My aunt is going to get two budgies! I knew about this since 2006, but I just didn't have time to type it down on the computer. I have nothing much to say about this anyway. Well, in the past, my aunt used to have budgies in an apartment when she was about 15 & used to keep budgies in her house not so long ago. I think this is very exciting & probably, I don't have to speak for hours to give my aunt information! This is very good news! Well, I certainly will make an article when my aunt actually gets budgies. Otherwise, this is some of the best news ever!

ARE MY GENDER THOUGHTS WRONG?

It seems that after more of my tests, observations & info from books, my birds may have different genders than my thoughts...

(look at their ceres, it's a deep blue. That means male)>>

Just like the subtitle said, after my tests, observations & info from books, Molly & Sasha may be different than what I thought. The best way of telling the sex of a budgie is of course, looking at their cere (nose). Over these days I've been saying that Sasha's a male & Molly's a female. Well today, it looks like I mixed up the colors of ceres. It actually looked most likely to me that Molly & Sasha are both males. I just saw it in a book, "The male's cere is a deep blue," just like Molly's & Sasha's ceres. Their actions also matter a lot for determining the sex of budgies. In the early days, females tend to be more aggresive, bite harder & take more time than males to get used to you. Molly does bite hard (today when I gave her a bath, she bit me hard & I got some skin cuts), but she got used to me right away, unlike Sasha. The book said that there's a rumor that male budgies have better vocalization than females. Both Sasha & Molly sing very well, so there's another chance of being both males. And about Sasha's female side, she didn't get used to me for a long time & still has a bit of 'no trust' for me. Well, it will remain a mystery until we actually go to a vetranarian & give Molly & Sasha blood tests. Maybe it's a new gender, maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong. Who knows? We'll find out in another article.

WE'RE BACK!

How was the arrival from Palm Springs? What did my birds do?

As you know, I left for Palm Springs, CA on December 12 & on January 1st, I arrived at approxamately 6:45AM. That same day, I got Molly & Sasha back from my aunt. They were in great shape with what I told my aunt, fortunately. I even got a 'HAPPY NEW YEAR' photo of them at night! Well the best news is that the birds are okay, happy & memorize me.

A NEW LEVEL OF LOVE?

Molly & Sasha are doing more than regurgitating in each others mouths. They're preening each others faces! What love!

Probably everybody heard about my birds regurgitating in each others mouths, but I never thought that they'd do something like this. They're starting to preen each others faces! They always make the cutest sounds when they do this & I know that it's a sign of love. I knew that my birds will probably marry! They're probably boy & girl! This can be a great situation! Well, we'll see what will happen with Molly & Sasha in another article.

A FUTURE MARRIAGE?

Over these days, my birds are regurgitating in each other's mouths more. Will there be a future marriage?

Regurgitating in each other's mouths may be disgusting, but it's a sign of love for all budgies. Sasha really pumps up to do it! Now everyday I hear the nice music & cool action of my birds doing the 'regurgitating' act. They're beginning to do it more & more. If they do it too much, that'll be a sign that my birds will probably get married! Maybe I'm right - Sasha's a boy & Molly's a girl! Who knows if I'm wrong? But if they marry, all my plans will be right! What will happen next?

IS IT WORDS?

When Molly sings, she sometimes makes these 'purring-like' sounds. Are they sounds she's trying to make, or even words?!

Everyday, Molly sings at a special spot on the front perch. I always listen for anything peculiar from Molly. For some amount of days, I hear these nice purring sounds from Molly. I always think about what those sounds are really trying to be. Sounds? Words? I'll probably never find out until Molly starts to make those purring sounds more clear. Maybe they're not words. It's just my hypothesis that Molly is trying to say words. I'll never know. But if they are in word or sound formations afterward, I was right. We'll find out soon.

WHAT ABOUT THE BIRDS!?

In not so long, we go to California, but what about the birds!? Who'll take care of them?!

This is a HUGE problem. We need to go to Palm Springs, California & we can't take our birds. So we need to find someone to take care of them. At least I talked to my aunt about caring for my birds. But will she do a good job??? It can be bad or good. I'll never find out how my birds will react to my aunt. It'll be a matter of events to see what happens afterward. If I hadn't thought of this before, my grandparents would've been yelling at me, "WHAT ABOUT THE BIRDS! YOU NEVER MADE A PLAN ABOUT THE BIRDS!" at California. We'll see what'll happen in another article.

THE FUTURE THOUGHTS

Sasha (yellow) & Molly (blue/black) are getting to be famous! Even though not much people visit my website, my birds are on a website! They can start talking & then... I'll be famous! They can probably go on television if they're trained enough! Molly sings a lot, so maybe, she'll learn words! These future thoughts may not be true, but if this happens, I'll make an article about it right away!

THE GENDER MYSTERY

What is Sasha's gender? How will I find out...

Over these October days, Sasha has been being called a 'she', but is that true? Sasha has been acting like a male since we got her & even though my dad thinks Sasha is a female, he could be wrong. I always thought Sasha was a male, even though we call her a 'she'. She regugitates (usually male do), she sings a lot & has a great vocal chord (males sing to females usually & can talk well because of their astonishing vocal chords), & Sasha's cere (nose) is sort of the male budgie color. The mystery here is if Sasha's a male or female.

IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THEM...

MOLLY: Molly is the youngest bird in our house. She has stripes on her wings, blue on her belly & yellow on her face. She is a medium sized budgie & is very, very, very tame. SASHA: Sasha is a pretty big budgie. She is very active & runs away from my finger, while Molly loves my finger. Sasha is one of the most curious birds I've met. She always nibbles my finger when I put my finger close to her & she chews on things, A LOT! She is mostly yellow, with some green on the belly.

TAMER BIRDS!

It looks like Molly & Sasha are get tamer by the day...

I noticed how Molly & Sasha are progressing in taming when I let them fly. Molly actually stays on my hand when I bring her out!!! That's the first time she ever did it! Sasha really doesn't like my hand, but she goes on it sometimes. I never saw any better progress than this! Especially with a pair, because pairs are harder to train! I'm 9 years old, knows about computers, & has a website! Even the latest news says how tame they are! Molly is tamer than Sasha, but if they're tame, they're good. :)

MOLLY'S BLEEDING HEAD

Molly had a huge accident on a quiet August day in 2006...

The latest news here is that Molly's head got cut & was bleeding. Everyone who heard about superbudgie.com has heard about Molly the budgie. Well one day, when Sasha was flying in the living room, Molly went crazy in the cage, as usual. I soon looked at my hand for no apparent reason & saw blood. I wiped off the blood, but no cut was there, so I walked over to Molly & Sasha's cage & couldn't believe what I saw: a cut on Molly's head, blood on the cage floor, & blood on the perch! When I realized that Molly was bleeding, I had to take her out & cure her cut. I will never forget that horrible moment in my bird's life. Molly was a lucky one. She was brave enough to withstand the pain. I couldn't imagine what Molly felt like at that time...
